London with the first-timer ladies – the best bits

ensikertalaiselle, Jamie's italian, kiertoajelu, London, Lontoo, Southall

I’ll be flying to Berlin tomorrow and realized that I haven’t told you what happened in London. So here we go (partly in Finnish).

You might remember our discussion earlier:

“Have you ever been to London before?” I talked to my mom, but I was asking about everyone – all six ladies – of the English class.
“No. Except for Mervi, who was there once in the 1970s”, she replied.
“Alright. So let’s plan it from there.”

It was a three day visit in London with ladies who go to the same English class and wanted to explore the city. I was expecting mostly Madame Tussaud’s and double-deckers, but we ended up doing many things that I would really love to experience again. Here are the best bits of our program.

Jamie’s Italian in Covent Garden: I had probably one of the best vegetarian pastas ever at Jamie Oliver’s Italian restaurant in the tourist magnet area of Covent Garden. The ladies went crazy and purchased two dozens of Jamie’s napkins! ūüôā But they enjoyed their meals, too.

Archer Street Cocktail bar in Soho. After Jamie’s I had a musical night out with Mel (the group’s teacher), Frank Ginatra and Rhu-Barbra Streisand – the last two being cocktails. In addition to the lovely drinks, the singing waiters & waitresses kept us entertained! I’d love to go there again!

Afternoon tea  at Hotel Capital, Knightsbridge – high tea for the ladies, a luxurious tea serving spotted by Melanie. I warmly recommend a bit lighter dinner after this experience! But I had almost forgotten how good fresh scones taste…

East End, Brick Lane & Old Street – the east part of London always works for a lazy afternoon, at least for Mel and myself. Meanwhile the ladies were doing the obligatory Madame Tussaud’s.

And a cherry on top: superb Indian food at Desi Tadka in Southall – where Mel went to see her Indian friends accompanied by mom and myself. And we ended up having a fun and delicious night and making new friends. Southall is a place where it’s easy to forget you are in Britain, not in Bangalore.

After complaining how hard it is to find cheese for palak paneer in Helsinki, one of our new friends gave me some to take home with me. Wonderful. Toimii!)

And just two more things:

Note to self: Return to Notting Hill Gate’s vintage boutiques.

And the last bit: it’s always nice to make someone’s wish come true – like my mom’s of visiting London.

(Big Buses -kiertoajelu oli tosin hieman hidastempoista keskell√§ ruuhkia. Onneksi mulla oli lukemista mukana. Jordan / Katie Price -paran suhdedraama jatkuu jo toista vuosikymment√§.

Thank you all who were involved. It was fab.

Next stop  will be Berlin tomorrow!
